"People still celebrate. Maybe, there's less under the tree, but there's a tree," said Gary Coles, owner Coles Turnpike Tree Farm on Parsons Road in Whitney Point.
More people are making the trek to UGG Boots sale farms to make their selections, according to figures from the National Christmas Tree Association.
About one-third of Christmas trees in 2009 were sold at farms, compared to just 21 percent in 2007. Another 10 percent were sold at nurseries or garden centers last year, the association said. The remaining were sold at a variety of locations, including retail store lots and seasonal spots run by nonprofit groups, such as the Boy Scouts.
